Laura Ramsay
Laura Ramsay is a saxophonist and educator originally from Bergenfield, NJ. She is in her final year of working towards undergraduate degrees in saxophone performance and music education at the University of Michigan, in the GRAMMY-award-winning saxophonist Timothy McAllister studio.
During her time at Michigan, Laura performed with the Symphony Band, University Symphony Orchestra, University Philharmonia Orchestra, and Saxophone Ensemble, and she was a part of 10 world/consortium premieres with these ensembles.
Laura has performed as a soloist and chamber musician at music festivals, including the Brevard Music Center Summer Institute, Arosa Music Academy, American Saxophone Academy, and Great Plains Saxophone Workshop, and has participated in masterclasses for multiple artists, including Christian Wirth, Joe Lulloff, Carrie Koffman, Robert Young, Raaf Hekkema, and the Sinta Quartet.
As a chamber musician, Laura is the alto chair of the Cerus Quartet and the saxophonist and pianist of the Simian Duo. In the summer of 2022, the Simian Duo organized and participated in a series of performances of saxophone duo music across the Midwest for local audiences, where they premiered five new works.
Most recently, the Cerus Quartet has gained multiple accolades in the past year, notably including the First Prize at the MTNA National Chamber Music Competition, silver medal at the 2023 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition, and First Prize and Michigan Prize in the 2023 University of Michigan Briggs Chamber Music Competition.
