The WWCMF Cycle:

One with music.

One artist, one masterpiece, and one ideal.

WWCMF is built on the idea that you can enjoy chamber music in many different ways, from a brief chance encounter to a deep dive.

Our programs are anything but stuffy. Come in jeans, or come in a tux. You can’t do it wrong. If you have no experience with classical music, you will gain some. If you have lots of experience, you’ll engage in every bit of it.

The Cycle

Our programming unfolds in a CYCLE OF EVENTS that build on one another to provide you with an entertaining, meaningful, and complete musical experience.

A season may have one cycle or several, but each cycle shares the same four elements.

Here’s how it works and why it’s so fun:

1

Portrait of an Artist

In the ancient sense of the word, genius is that which makes us unique. Each WWCMF artist approaches music from a unique perspective. All have in common the qualities of excellence and character. The Portrait of an Artist series reveals the genius of the individual performer through an interview-recital featuring a variety of works. You get to hang out with a consummate artist for an hour and experience their life in music while deepening your own.

2

Tasting Music

Where the PoA series focuses on the performer, the Tasting Music series focuses on the object of performer and listener alike, a piece of music; in this case, a masterpiece. Each event explores a single composition, how it was put together, why it sounds the way it does, and the context surrounding its composition and reception. This series reveals the genius of the music and does so with a sense of humor, accessibility, and informal camaraderie.

3

Special Events

Special Events explore an artistic ideal expressed through a composer, genre, ensemble, or in the convergence of all three. From historically informed performances on period instruments to a seeming outlier like heavy metal chamber music, Special Events expand your understanding and enjoyment of what music can be. This series includes WWCMF’s annual Collage performances.

4

Festival Series

In one sense, the Festival Series represents a traditional concert program with all its attending variety. It showcases the artists, composers, works, and concepts featured in all three of the other series. Here is the PoA Artist, surrounded by peers; here is the TM composition, an old friend with a new story; here is the artistic ideal of the SE, now one among many; and here you are, one with the music.
