January 2013: Tasting Music 1

  • Charles Smith Wines 35 South Spokane Street Walla Walla, WA, 99362 United States (map)

Come in jeans, clap between movements, and get ready to rock!

In 2012, WWCMF rocked the Charles Smith Wines Tasting Room for the first time, presenting PROJECT Trio. In 2013, we are proud to present Sybarite5, winners of the prestigious 2011 Concert Artist Guild competition in New York City. Sybarite5 is a quintet consisting of 2 violins, viola, cello and double bass. Their influences span centuries of music from Baroque to classic rock to contemporary trendsetters like RADIOHEAD.

Sybarite5 represents the convergence of virtuosity and curiosity. They continue to explore new ways to make music, regardless of genre. At WWCMF, we believe passionately in the music of Mozart, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky and company. We also believe that the music of these great composers is done a great disservice when it is dressed up in powdered wigs, tuxedos, and monocles (with optional mink stole, depending on the season)… Classical music, as it is widely known, is not set apart from other genres by anything other than the torturous etiquette that sometimes overtakes the performance itself.

By mining connections between the music of our place and time and the music of the past, Sybarite5 is reaching new audiences and spreading an infectious joy for great acoustic music. So come in jeans, clap between movements, and get ready to rock! What better place to catch a great acoustic set than Charles Smith Wines Tasting Room?

Artists: MariLouis Levitt, Sami Merdinian, Laura Metcalf, Angela Pickett and Sarah Whitney as Sybarite5
